Super Bowl XXVIII Pitsburgh 21 Detroit 17

MVP John L Williams and teamates
celebrate winning SB XXVIII
The Pittsburgh Steelers come from behind to win Super Bowl XXVIII and spoiled the Lions story book season. The Lions came into the Big Dance by beating the Vikings, 49ers and Cowboys all on the road and with 12:30 left in the 4th quarter, it looked like they would add the Steelers to their list. However, trailing 17 - 7. Steelers QB Neil O'Donnell marched the Steelers  80 yards in 17 play to a TD on a 4 yard Barry Foster run. The score cut the Lions lead to 3 with 4:38 left in the game. The Steeler Defense stopped the Lions on their next possession and the Steelers got the ball back with just 1:35 left to play on the Steeler 16 yard line. The Steeler's Coach took a big gamble replacing QB Neil O"Donnell with backup QB Mike Tomczak hoping to confuse the Lion Defense and it did, as Backup QB Mike Tomczak marched the Steelers 84 yards in 52 second to the winning TD, a pass from Tomczak to HB and Game MVP John Williams ( his second TD rec of the day). The Steeler Defense kept Barry Sanders in check all game, as he ended the game with only 79 yards on 21 carries and 1 TD. Congratulations to Gene on a great season with the Lions and great Super Bowl.
