Arizona 19 Washington 16

Cards 19   Redskins 16--    Rain soaked field in 87 degree temps  made  for an odd game.  Rookie coach Roman lead  his team to a 10-0 lead into the 2nd quarter before Cards struck back with a TD strike before the half for a 10-7 halftime Skins lead.  The biggest  play of the game for the Cards came midway through the 3rd quarter with an end around which  gained 36 yards and set up the 2nd TD for them. Washington stopped the Cards cold inside the 5 yard line and forced the Cards to settle for a FG and an 17-10 lead halfway through the 4th period. Coach Roman sent his team down the field and scorred a TD with less then 3 min. left making the score 17-16  going for the win Skins failed on a 2 point covertion  forcing a failed onside kick. The Cards could  not bleed the full clock down and had to punt away. The Skins moved the ball well but the clock ran out to end the rain fest!  All QBs played well as the Cards tried out two. Coach Roman  in a statement to the Washington Post said " those shovel passes by Arizona caused   more troubles for Washington then Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon  ever did  on their best days"

Seattle 24 Buffalo 10

Seahawks fly into blustery Buffalo and whip up on the Bills 24-10. According to some unconfirmed reports, the Bills team spent too much time at Dominik Hasek's Wing Shack the night before the game and it showed. Buffalo had 291 total offense to 287 for the visitors but 2 Kelly picks and a critical loss on a 4th and goal sneak by Kelly proved to be to much for the home team to overcome. Good Night and BTW doesn't some Wings and draught's sound really good. Yum

Green Bay 20 Detroit 17 OT

Chris Jacke
Brett Favre worked the two minute drill to perfection lead the Packers on a 1:38 73 yards, 13 play drive to tie the game at 17-17 with 30 seconds left.  Green Bay then won the toss in OT and drove to the Lions 3 yard line before Chris Jacke booted a 20 yard field goal for the victory.  Favre completed 30 passes for 413 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Green Bay.

Atlanta 31 St. Louis 7

Jeff George came out on fire and throwing, as he throws 3 TD passes on Falcon's 1st 3 possessions ( Emanuel 45 yards, Heywood 15 yards and Metcalf 45 yards). Tuggle then picked off Miller on the Rams next series and returned it 47 yards for another TD and basically that was it.

New Orleans 36 Miami 14

The Saints Defense Intercepted Miami backup QB Bernie Kosar 5 times as New Orleans wins big at home in the Superdome 36 to 14. Next week the Saints travel to Carolina to face the Panthers and the Dolphins travel to the Meadowlands to play the Jets.

Carolina 34 NY Jets 17

Derrick Moore
Carolina took advantage of 3 New York turnovers and untimely penalties to grab a 20-0 lead at halftime.  The Jets turned things around in the 2nd half with some big plays to pull within 27-17, and they were inside the Carolina 40 on two straight drives, but were turned back on both occasions when backup QB Bubby Brister was intercepted.  Derrick Moore was the game MVP with 111yds on the ground and 2 touchdowns.  Next week, the Jets return home to host rival Miami while the Panthers entertain division foe New Orleans.

Dallas 29 Green Bay 26

Emmitt Smith crashed into the endzone with 10 seconds left to give Dallas a 29-26 win. Aikman led the Cowboys on a 14-play 60 yard drive with :10 remaining to keep the Cowboys in first place.

New England 37 Denver 35

Great game where NE gets their first W of the season on a Matt Bahr 45 yd FG into a 25 MPH wind as time expired.  Curtis Martin was the MVP with 187 rushing yds and 3 TD's - two on the ground and one receiving.

Great game called by Bill that game down to the last play.

Pittsburgh 29 Jacksonville 20

Its a pretty good game, back-and-forth, Jax/Pitt tied at 13-13 with 2 minutes
Ernie Mills
left in Q3.

Feels like Pitt is dominating a bit, when every rushing play with Pegram nets 4-6 yards, but Jax is hanging tough.

Pitt keeps committing penalties and finds themselves with a 3rd-and-24 backed up at their own 2 yard line.  So Jax calls man-to-man, 2 men in deep segment, pass, 2-4 Nickel formation, no doubleteams, etc....just want a short completion and get the ball back at approx midfield.

Ernie Mills grabs one from O'Donnell and goes 87 yards.  Pitt eventually scores on that drive and the deflated Jaguars drop yet another one.  Guess that is the 9 RAC shining through in all its glory vs my pathetic DB's

Pitt 29  Jax 20

Pitt to 4-2.  Jax to 1-5

Good game Keith.

Cleveland 27 Detroit 24

Detroit jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and looked to run away with this one, but a fumbled interception return by Corey Raymond gave Cleveland new life.  The Browns then outscored the Lions 27-3 to take control of the game and they walked away with a 27-24 road win.  Vinny Testaverde threw for 297yds and 3 touchdowns to match the Lions Scott Mitchell who threw for 295yds and 3 touchdowns. Next week, Cleveland has a bye while Detroit travels to Green Bay to play the Packers.

Miami 37 Indianapolis 24

Indy plays well but has no answer for Marino who goes 29 of 31 for 352 and 1 TD.  Bernie Parmalee scores 3 TD.

Oakland 30 Seattle 20

Penalties, a characteristic usually associated with the Oakland Raiders, were the
Tim Brown
downfall of the Seattle Seahawks Sundy
night at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as they fell to the Oakland Raiders, 30 - 20. At one point in the game, All-Pro tackle Cortez Kennedy was hit with 3 Roughing the Passer penalties in one drive that ultimately culminated in a Hostetler to Brown 4 yard touchdown pass and a Raider 23 - 10 halftime lead. The Seahawks were able to pull within 3 in the second half behind a strong running attack (Chris Warren: 21- 124) sharp passing by Rick Mirer (12 - 24, 132, 1Td) who finally awoke from an early first half slump. However, the Raiders were not to be denied as they utilized the clock on a 7 minute, 15 play, 86 yard drive to go up 30 - 20 late in the fourth quarter. A fumble by Steve Broussard on the subsequent kick return with 2:28 left on the clock was enough to essentially put the game out of reach for the Seahawks. Jeff Hostetler was game MVP with a 15 - 23, 172 yard day, including 4Tds, 3 of which were to All-Pro receiver Tim Brown (3 - 61, 20.3, 3Td). Next week the Seahawks (1 - 4) travel east to face the Buffalo Bills, while the 4 - 2 Raiders visit the Mile High City to face John Elway and the Denver Broncos.

Philadelphia 27 New Orleans 13

The Penalties and turnovers were too must for the Saints to over come as the They fall for the second week in a row.
Eagle RB Ricky Waters rushed for 120 yards on 29 carries and 1 TD as the Eagles defeat the Saints 27 - 13.
Next week the Saints have a Bye and the Eagles face Washington at home.

Houston 38 Jacksonville 13

This one was totally dominated by Houston.

Houston  OL run blocking       Center =9  LG=9  RG=8
Jax DL  defending                  3's and 4's   then injury   1's and 2's

Ugly.....every dive play seemed like a minimum of 5

Houston 38    Jax 13

Even time of possession for the teams, but Chandler with a QBR of 132.5 on 22-for-29 for 228 and 3 TD's is essentially Joe Montana.  Rodney Thomas is Larry Csonka with 19-for-113 up the gut.

Brunell is 12-for-22 with 2 picks and a whopping 117 yards passing.  He did run well, again, 14-for-88

Both teams move to 1-4 records

Pittsburgh 23 San Diego 20

Mike Tomczak
Pittsburgh hangs on and ran out the clock as the Steelers knock the Chargers from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 23 to 20 win in Three Rivers Stadium. Backup QB Mike Tomczak completed 22 of 34 passes for 257 yards and 1TD. Next week the Steelers travel to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars and the Chargers travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs.

Carolina 16 Tampa Bay 10

Mark Carrier
Carolina jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead, then withstood a 2nd half rally to edge the Bucs, 16-10 in a good defensive contest. Mark Carrier scored the only touchdown for the Panthers on a 25yd catch & run.  Lawrence Dawsey scored Tampa's touchdown on a 9yd reception.  Next week, Tampa Bay returns home to host Cincinnati. Carolina travels to Chicago to face the Bears.

Cleveland 27 Buffalo 17

Mike Caldwell
Vinnie Testaverde completed 26 of 32 passes for 255yds and 2 touchdowns to lead Cleveland to a 27-17 win over the visiting Buffalo Bills.  Jim Kelly passed for 294yds and 2 touchdowns while trying to rally the Bills who fell behind after leading 10-3 in the first quarter.  The key play in the game was a 30yd pick six by LB Mike Caldwell that gave the Browns a lead they never relinquished. Next week, Buffalo returns home to host the New York Jets. Cleveland heads to Detroit to face the Lions.

Oakland 28 NY Jets 7

Terry McDaniel
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Jeff Hostetler (106.3 QB rating) and the Oakland Raiders took advantage of 4 Jets turnovers and cruised to a 28-7 win at the Meadowlands.
The Raiders first score, in fact the only tally in the first period, was a beautifully crafted 94-yard, 12-play drive capped by a 20-yard Hostetler to TE Kerry Cash TD grab.
Oakland (3-2) extended to a 21-0 halftime advantage on a 19-yard scoring toss from Hostetlerto Tim Brown and a Derrick Fenner 3-yard TD run.
The Jets (2-3) notched their only score with 5:43 on the clock in the 3rd with Adrian Murrelldove in from a yard out.
All-pro CB Terry McDaniel topped off the scoring for the Raiders with a 50-yard pick 6. Special mention defensively must also be given to LB Mike Jones for his 14 solo tackles, 1 stuff and 21-yard interception.
Thanks to Mohammed for working with our Pacific and Central European time zone difference.

Dallas 34 Washington 24

Emmit Smith
Emmitt Smith ran for 211 yards and 3 TDs to lead Dallas to a 34-24 win over the Redskins in Washington yesterday. Smith now has 806 yards rushing in five games. Aikman had another outstanding day  completing 21 of 30 for 224 yards and Irvin hauled in 7 catches for 137 yards as the Cowboy offense controlled the ball for 36 minutes gaining 454 yards. All was not so good on the other side of the ball as the Cowboy defense continued to struggle as they await the arrival of Deon Sanders who signed a 5-year $30 million dollar deal two weeks ago. Sanders will join the Cowboys in a few weeks when the baseball season ends.

Atlanta 20 NY Jets 0

Atlanta's Defense plays by far their best game and give Atlanta good field position most of 1st half; aided by some nice Metcalf punt returns. Atlanta's offense does just enough against a tough Jet D and go up 17-0 at half.  Atlanta in 2nd half play to not turn ball over and strategy works as Atlanta give home town fans a happy car ride home. Next week the Jets host Qakland while Atlanta host New England (guessing the pigskin will be flying!).

Cleveland 23 Kansas City 22

Matt Stover
Matt Stover kicked a 33yd field goal with 0:20secs remaining to lift Cleveland to thrilling 23-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.  Two minutes earlier, Lin Elliott booted a 26yd field goal that gave the Chiefs a 2 point lead.  In this back and forth game, the lead changed hands 6 times in the 2nd half alone, with neither team having more than a 6 point lead.  The Browns were able to pull the game out despite turning the ball over 3 times in the 1st quarter. Next week, Cleveland stays home to host Buffalo and Kansas City travels to Arizona to face the Cardinals.
