Oakland 30 Seattle 20

Penalties, a characteristic usually associated with the Oakland Raiders, were the
Tim Brown
downfall of the Seattle Seahawks Sundy
night at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as they fell to the Oakland Raiders, 30 - 20. At one point in the game, All-Pro tackle Cortez Kennedy was hit with 3 Roughing the Passer penalties in one drive that ultimately culminated in a Hostetler to Brown 4 yard touchdown pass and a Raider 23 - 10 halftime lead. The Seahawks were able to pull within 3 in the second half behind a strong running attack (Chris Warren: 21- 124) sharp passing by Rick Mirer (12 - 24, 132, 1Td) who finally awoke from an early first half slump. However, the Raiders were not to be denied as they utilized the clock on a 7 minute, 15 play, 86 yard drive to go up 30 - 20 late in the fourth quarter. A fumble by Steve Broussard on the subsequent kick return with 2:28 left on the clock was enough to essentially put the game out of reach for the Seahawks. Jeff Hostetler was game MVP with a 15 - 23, 172 yard day, including 4Tds, 3 of which were to All-Pro receiver Tim Brown (3 - 61, 20.3, 3Td). Next week the Seahawks (1 - 4) travel east to face the Buffalo Bills, while the 4 - 2 Raiders visit the Mile High City to face John Elway and the Denver Broncos.
